“Yes, Christ my hope is arisen!” Happy Easter!

Man eating at the CasaJesus says in the Gospel, “The poor you will always have with you.” Many of these poor cannot help themselves because of sickness, deformity, or old age. The Casa is their lifeline. Some who come to the Casa need only a few months of temporary help, while others are totally dependent. Those who come for help did not choose this life! “There but for God go I.”

Myra and her children wrote to say, “thank you” for the donations of food! The family is very grateful! Continue reading

“The Lord Hears the Cry of the Poor”

Psalm 34

THANK YOU FOR HEARING THE CRY OF THE POOR. You made Christmas a time of JOY for our brothers and sisters in Christ who endure harsh poverty in the dumps of Tijuana.

1600 families came via many bus lines or on foot from the hills and dumps to receive their gifts this year, in a four-day shift, to accommodate smaller crowds. Some arrived the night before and camped out in the cold street. Humble men and women stood in line for hours to receive a bag of beans, rice, oatmeal, sugar, tuna, canned milk, and fruit. They were thrilled and grateful to receive this food and the other gifts. Continue reading

Psalm 34

THERE IS AN URGENT NEED FOR FOOD IN TIJUANA, AS MANY FOOD PANTRIES ARE CLOSED. Your monetary and food donations are needed urgently!

Jose a 6-year-oldMeet Jose, a 6-year-old. He told one of the Sisters: “I want to present to you my mom. Her name is Monica and I have a little sister who is three weeks old. My other sister is called Mireya and she will be two years. My dad is Jose. He works in a factory but earns little money. I like very much to play ball and soccer. When I get home from school, my mom gives me a yummy soup and then I do my homework that my teacher gives me. When I grow up, I would like to be a doctor to help the people who are sick and don’t have money to get well.”

Jose is a boy that is very enthusiastic and likes studying a lot. With your help, he can continue on to become what he dreams about: a doctor to help others. This is a good example of scholarship aid in action. Continue reading

“A Christian is not his own master; his time is God’s.”

St. Ignatius of Antioch

man carrying g“I am Jesus, I am 67 and homeless. After losing my job and money due to COVID-19, I went to Casa de los Pobres asking for help with deep appreciation for all the mercy I have found. I kindly asked for a pair of tennis shoes, pants, shirt, underwear, and socks. At the same time, I want to thank those who provide all these blessings and the hands of the volunteers who made possible the delivery of these gifts to us, the most vulnerable people of our society. For your help and understanding, thanks!”

Multiply this story many times. These suddenly out-of-work men have discovered the Casa and ask for more than the Sisters are able to provide. But an unexpected bequest has permitted the Sisters to buy some tennis shoes, socks, and underwear at Costco in Tijuana temporarily. Continue reading

“Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, for His love endures forever.”

Psalm 118

The virus situation in Tijuana is serious, and your extra donations are very much appreciated. Many men are out of work and are coming for the first time to ask for food, shoes, socks, underwear, and toiletry items. Thanks to several large donations, the Sisters are joyfully shopping at Costco in Tijuana to purchase the much-needed sneakers (at very good prices) and other items. Sister Armida and the Sisters are thrilled to provide such necessities for these men. You can imagine how they all must feel!  THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU!

The Sisters, cooks, and helpers are working long hours to feed and care for all who come. Food must be specially-packaged, hand washing facilitated, mask distributed, and on and on. This is costly. Continue reading

Psalm 37

“My wife and I lost the room where we used to live because the Maquila where we were Man wearing mask and blanketworking closed. Right now, we are living on the streets or in the parks. When we have some money, we pay for a shelter. I want to thank all the people who selflessly help us. Really, thank you very much. I really don’t know what would become of many of us, mainly all of the elderly like me.  I am 64 years old and lost my job 2 months ago, and my few savings ran out. Someone told me about this place, so I started coming 4 days ago.”

These stories are good examples of what your monthly donations provide. We thank God for YOU! Continue reading
