Your Amazon Purchases Can Help the Casa

Do you Buy on Amazon.com?

Amazon will donate 0.5% of your purchase amounts when you shop at smile.amazon.com — and select Casa de Los Pobres USA from their benefits list.  Every little bit helps!

On June 3 from 10 am to noon at St. Brigid’s Parish (on Cass Street in Pacific Beach), it’s our third annual “Family & Friends Community Connection” Food Packaging Event!

Hundreds of volunteers will package 57,000 meals in just two hours.  This high protein dehydrated food (which includes a vitamin packet) is a special blessing for those who live in the far our colonias. It is easy to prepare and also tastes surprisingly good.

Sisters Armida and Antonia will be there to help along with other Casa workers.  We are grateful to Msgr. Steve Callahan for allowing this event to happen.  After the packaging, stay for the fiesta from 12-3pm, featuring delicious Mexican cuisine, cerveza, great music, raffle prizes, and lots of fun.  LEARN MORE ABOUT THE EVENT

How You Can Support the Casa

This month, Sister Armida requests FOOD:

  • Tuna, peanut butter, spam, canned milk, oatmeal, high-protein food
  • Extra money to provide medicine
  • Sheets, towels, blankets, kitchenware

Your generosity this month provided $13,617.55 from 53 donors.Thank you San Rafael Parish for the hundreds of bags of beans and rice you collected during Lent, and also for the yarn supplies. The people at the Casa send grateful thanks for your donations of linens and food. Nights are still chilly. We thank Ron Lussier who regularly collects blankets from the Scripps ER.

The Sisters instill hope and treat each individual with a tenderness, respect, and love that can only come from God. The undercurrent of JOY amid so much destitution and illness is felt by anyone who visits the Casa. During the Holy Hour and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Thursdays, the people chant praise and thanksgiving to God for your intentions and special prayer requests.  Please send us your special requests — no donations are necessary.

Everything you donate is used immediately, and everything goes directly to serve the needs of the people.  We have no overhead, other than minimal PayPal and credit card fees per donation. Tax receipts are available upon request.

NO ONE IS EVER TURNED AWAY FROM THE CASA.

THE PEOPLE AND THE SISTERS THANK YOU FOR YOUR OPEN HEARTS
