“I thank God for this help for several months now, because I have three sons. I work in Maquiladora night shift. I support my 2 younger ones. My husband disappeared 11 months ago. One day, he left for work and did not return.” Blanca E.
“I ask for help because I am 67 now, and have been caring for my brother who is intellectually disabled. I care for him since my parents died. I feel uncomfortable to ask, but now I have diabetes and hypertension. I used to work cleaning houses.” Graciela M.
“I have two domestic jobs. I come here to Casa for food, because I have not been able to get a job in Maquiladora, because I suffer hypertension. I live with an aunt because I cannot pay rent, do not have enough money. I have a daughter in Secondary grade of school, and I cannot afford for what she needs to study.” Juana G.
These precious people of the Casa are supported by your love, care, and donations.
SPECIAL APPEAL – how you can help
Sister Armida says all types of staple food items are continually requested:
- beans, rice, tuna, canned milk, peanut butter, oatmeal
These groceries are given to the people on Bodega Day and in emergency situations. NOW is one of these emergency situations; supplemental food is distributed daily.
One of our generous donors purchases food and toiletries by watching for store specials and clipping coupons. Every two weeks, she delivers over $300 worth of food!
We also need:
- CLEAN towels and blankets
- Medical items, non-prescription drugs, vitamins
The people are so grateful for your donations and pray for you daily.
Your great works of mercy
The COVID-19 crisis continues to bring new men and women to the Casa for help. People who have lost jobs and are overwhelmed with family, physical, and emotional problems. No one is turned away. All are given food, clothing, blankets, and needed support. Food is uppermost in the minds of these helpless people whose tenuous stability is shattered.
Feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, providing blankets and other necessities are the great works of mercy and the heart of the Casa. We thank you for your participation in these works of mercy by your donations and prayers. And thanks be to God, the Casa is still free of the coronavirus!
Your generosity in June provided $43,187 (one large check from a will, and four others well over $3,500) from 78 donors. We sent Sister Armida $1520 in designated scholarship aid. This aid is helping to make dreams come true for both students and their families. Education does break the cycle of poverty. Several students are attending university, one has graduated, and many younger pupils are excelling in school because of the assistance you furnish!
We have no overhead, except minimal fees from PayPal and credit card donations. Help us continue to help the poorest of the poor who have nowhere else to turn.
