Marya and her four children live in a friend’s half-open garage. They suffer from exposure to the elements, both hot and cold. The father deserted the family, and the poor Mom has a fatal tumor that is being treated in the Clinic. But she carries on and cleans houses when she is able. She encourages and supports the children to study hard and get good grades. The two boys, ages 9 and 12, take school seriously, and get such good grades that they are in the Scholarship Program.

This is the type of family that received food, a blanket, and toys at the Casa’s Christmas distribution. Those who receive the Christmas gifts live in the dumps on windy hills, have no running water, electricity is scarce and often provided via extension cords strung from house to house. “Bathrooms” are crude. Men, women, and children suffer from malnutrition and diseases caused by breathing the burning garbage fumes. This is truly third-world living right on our doorstep. They were comforted with a Happy Christmas feast!

May God Bless You for Your Generous Donations

Thank you for helping our brothers and sisters in the slums of Tijuana during this holy season of Advent. We received $23,169 from our special Christmas letter, and $43,639 ($25,000 from a Family Foundation) from our regular monthly donors (80 families). $1,520 went to the Casa for Scholarships.

We also received a generous $2,000 from the La Jolla Kiwanis International Fund, and 52 cases of protein bars plus 1,000 food items from Bhu Foods. We unloaded a huge SUV filled with canned goods and groceries from Blessed Sacrament Parish in San Diego. Caroline Kelner and her energetic team packaged thousands of bags of Halloween candy for the Christmas distribution. We are thankful for so many wonderful gifts.

These donations helped provide a special bag of groceries and a chicken for 1500 of the poorest families, along with the precious gift of a new blanket.

Thank you for your continuing support. Please pray for the people and the Sisters. The impoverished men, women, and children who come to the Casa are grateful and feel your loving care. Without you, they would not celebrate such a Happy and warm Christmas. Sister Armida relies on “God to provide.” He surely does through your open hearts.
