They need blankets and food to warm them
People arrive at the Casa while it’s still dark and cold. This winter is especially cold and dark! Breakfast lines are extra long. Some people arrive at 6:00 am, circle around the sidewalks outside the Casa, shivering while waiting for the gate to open. Others arrive the night before and camp out on the cold sidewalk.
The Sisters come out at night to help relieve their misery by distributing blankets and some food. The Casa is a place of refuge, spiritual solace, and friendship for the many men, women, and children who come there for help and support. COVID restrictions make it difficult for the people to socialize, which is normally one of their joys. Their suffering is great.
Multiplication of the loaves and fishes in real life
The Casa is a real life example of the loves and fishes parable. In January, at the Casa:
- 24,125 people received handouts of food daily
- 2,000 bags of groceries were given out
- 1,075 general medical clinic, specialists consultations, and prescriptions filled
- 500 people personally attended to in the Social Services Office
- 28 scholarship aids were given
We thank God for all of you who donate money to food the hungry people, and for your donations of blankets, food, warm clothing, and medical supplies. In late December, we received blankets and food from St. Patrick Parish CCD classes in Carlsbad. These were distributed at the Christmas celebration. January donations were $31,318.30 from 62 donors. We sent $1520 for scholarships. New blankets were donated as well! THANK YOU!
From Sr. Armida: “Thank you for all your efforts to support this place of endless needs and requests. Begging is not easy. I see the fear people try to hide when asking for help. God bless them — they are humble and innocent. The needs of the poor are simple: from baby formula to a handful of beans, from a tablet for pain to a wheelchair, from a plea of prayer for a sick person to assistance for burial.”
Some quotes from grateful ladies:
“I know I am like at home; food, blanket, and doctor; most of all your sincere deeds. Thank God and you.” Lizbeth
“I stay at a shelter. Thank you for the food. I cannot buy it. Thank God there is people like you who help with all your heart.” Susana
“I thank you for all the help, food, shoes, and all we receive. May God bless you for all you do for us who have no resources.” Irma Leticia
Thank you for your continued donations in these troubled times. We are grateful! We have no overhead, other than minimal fees from PayPal and credit card donations.
“God is in charge, and we are His helpers.” Sr. Armida
MAY GOD BLESS YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY TO HIS POOR
