“The Lord is Just and Loves Justice; the Upright Shall See His Face.”

Psalm 11

A Jesuit Seminarian stayed at the Casa last year, and here is part of his story . . .

“I went to teach catechism with Sisters Angeles and Teresa in the Santa Julia Colonia. It is far off and known for its high crime rate. Many houses are built precariously along the hillside. We visited two hardworking families. They were very warm and generous. We later reached the Center, a small building with three classrooms and a large field. The Sisters told of the problems they have with theft and vandalism even though the rooms are very simple. It was living in extreme poverty or in very desperate situations which led to this destruction, I thought.”

“I was asked to share my vocation story with the kids and was not sure how they would receive it, my reality being so very different from the one they were living. Certain things are universal, such as love for God and a calling to make something meaningful out of one’s life no matter social status. The students listed attentively and asked many good questions. At the end of class, we went outside to play soccer, girls versus boys. Girls beat us 11 to 6. This was a great experience which I can share with my brothers and sisters in Christ. I am grateful to God and to the Franciscan Missionary Sisters for the priceless work that they do.”

Help Us with School Supplies, Shoes, and Socks for Children

There is always a need for: staple food, vitamin pills, toilet paper, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo — things we take for granted. Mexican authorities forbid used clothing to be taken across the border. So please, NO used clothing.

The old, infirm, and mentally ill have no other means of food, comfort, and support as we do in the U.S. The Sisters are their support. For the young or middle-aged, the Casa is a positive transition haven until they find a job. They always seek work; independence is important for them.

Adopt a Student with a Monthly Gift

School increases dignity in the children by giving them a proper education in the “3 Rs”, while the Sisters instruct them in the important tenets of our Faith. The Nuns (with your donations) help and assist over 500 students with school supplies and other necessities every September. The Scholarship fund increases as the Sisters find more and more wothy students who truly desire to study and improve their life situation. They are discovering vocation goals and working toward them. It is an exciting time of life for these dedicated children. Let us continue to help!  Now, you can Adopt a Student by setting up a monthly donation.
